A dressing table is a pretty and practical piece of furniture for the bedroom or dressing room. They provide a useful work surface, along with practical storage for make-up and jewellery. Most of our dressing tables have optional matching stools and mirrors available which are sold separately.
Dressing Tables
The dressing table was first created in France in the 17th Century. At that time it was known as a Toilette or a Toilet Table.
Today it is more commonly known as a dressing table although it can be sometimes seen under the name of Vanity Table or Vanity Unit.
A dressing table can be an attractive and functional item at which to sit when applying make-up or when styling your hair. It would be used regularly when getting ready for a day at work or for an evening out. It is an ideal piece of furniture for the bedroom or the dressing room.
It is generally used with a matching chair or
stool to create a comfortable place to sit. The dressing table also often has an attached dressing mirror; otherwise a matching freestanding moveable mirror can be placed on top of the flat surface.
Dressing tables and their uses
Dressing tables often have drawers or small shelves in which to store smaller objects such as make-up, other cosmetics, combs or hairbrushes. They would also have a smooth flat top on which to display bottles of perfume, ornaments or jewellery boxes.
Whilst a chest of drawers or a table in solid woods such as Oak or Pine can also be used as an alternative; an elegant dressing table made with the specific purpose of sitting at to apply make-up etc is usually on the wish-list of most ladies.
